IFF5 had a theme of marine spatial planning and also took stock of progress made since the previous Forum and throughout the period of the Forum series. The Forum provided a platform to:
– Facilitate the sharing of information and experiences on marine spatial planning as one tool towards achieving sustainable fishery practices; and
– Review progress made during the decade of the IFF series, and provide a forward look through the identification of priority conservation and management areas in need of increased attention to ensure the long-term environmental and socioeconomic sustainability of fisheries with bycatch of sensitive species.
